  794. A Pair Of Antique Dutch Side Chairs An elegant pair of antique Dutch side chairs, ca. 18th Century. The chair back splats, back uprights, front rail and side rails are entirely embellished with marquetry designs consisting of a combination of floral and geometric patterns, with the back splat decorated with a large urn with branching flowers above with a bird seated in the flowers. The center of the front rail also has a motif containing a bird. The front legs are cabriole with a shell motif carved on the knees. The seats are shell-shaped with new red velvet drop-in seats. The front feet are in the form of a modified hoof and the back are pad feet. Overall the chairs measure approx. 40-3/4"H x 22"W x 15"D.  
  809. A Louis XVI-Style Dining Armchair A contemporary made dining armchair in a Louis XVI-style, in a ruddy mahogany color finish, with a nubby multicolor contemporary fabric upholstery on the seat, back and arms. The chair measures approx. 23"W x 23"D x 38"H. 
  694. Victorian Doll Chair A fine bent wood chair with caned seat. Apprx 11-1/2"T.  
  46. After Karel Ooms, Signed by D. Maclise "The Forbidden Book." 19th century oil on canvas, signed on the lower left on a rail of the chair "D. Maclise". Canvas measures approx. 20" x 16". Very nice decorative frame; measures approx. 25" x 20". It is documented that Maclise exhibited a painting titled "The Poet and his Wife", item 236, London 1861, listed in "The Royal Academy of Arts" 1769-1904, pages 152-157. It is possible that this is the painting referenced. Daniel Maclise was a member of Royal Academy. Hon. member "The Scottish Academy" 1866. "E. Benezit" Vol. 5, pg. 681; "The Royal Scottish Academy" 1826-1916, Kingsmead, pg. 258.  
  184. A Pair of Mies Van der Rohe Tubular-Steel Armchairs The German born Mies Van der Rohe (1886-1969) was a well known architect, also known for his simple and elegant furniture. This pair of polished stainless steel chairs with sage green suede cushions were produced by the well-known Knoll Furniture Company of Chicago. They reflect many features of his work including careful proportions and a functionalist design of austere elegance. These chairs are apprx 33-1/2" x 34" x 25-1/2". There is a sticker on the verso of one cushion indicating that these were completed on July 27, 1978 by the Knoll Furniture Company for the National City Bank of Chicago. On verso of the other chair is an inventory number sticker.  
  193. Pair of Gentleman and Lady's Chairs A gentleman's chair, with arms and a lady's chair without arms, circa 1920-1930. Both chairs with extensive carving throughout including rosette and leaf decorations on the arms, around the bases on the sides of the back as well as around the frame and on the top of the chair. The rush backs also have a wooden rosette carved in the center. The stretcher is carved and turned as well. Legs are carved and end on wood castors. On verso of the lady's chair is a sticker reading "The Elgin A Simonds Company Furniture Syracuse NY". On verso of both chairs are stickers that indicate additional information from the purchase including "name: L. Baumberger, pattent no. 2972, finish: ant, upholstry: 944, order no.: T4375 Dpt.70. They are apprx 45-1/2" x 25" x24" and 41-3/4" x 18-1/2" x 17-1/2".  
  323. French Empire-style Armchair, ca. 1850 Elegant Empire-style chair with curved armrests and slightly tapered legs. Cushion and back rest are upholstered using small brass nubs. Measures approx. 27" x 18" x 24".  
  324. English Armchair With Caned Seat, ca. 1875 Armed barrel chair has curved armrests and caned seat. Front legs are fluted and slightly tapered. Measures approx. 29" x 24" x 24".  
  31. Bernard DeHoog (Dutch, 1867-1943) "First Steps". Oil on canvas, signed lower right, 22" x 29", framed. Late afternoon or early morning sun highlight in a dramatic diagonal, lighting the 3/4 view of the mother's face and the baby's head. Note the expert handling of the light on the mother's face. A cat is to the right drinking milk with another sleeping on a chair to the left in the shadows. In a substantial, carved frame. Overall with frame apprx 33-1/4" x 40-1/2". Provenance: Ex Coll. John Gobey, Columbus, Ohio, by descent. Documentation of this piece will accompany the sale of this painting. With gallery tag from the Columbus Gallery of Fine Arts inaugural exhibition, January 1931, on loan from the collection of Mr. John Gobey. Bernard de Hoog studied and worked in Amsterdam until 1899, then worked in Lauren from 1903 to 1924. He also lived in Bussum before moving to The Hague, where he died in 1943. This artist specialized in warm interior scenes in The Hague tradition.  
  64. Joseph B. O'Sickey (American, b. 1918) "Still Life in Gold". Oil on canvas, framed, signed lower right and dated '85. Lovely still life of a garden room featuring a table and chair surrounded with many vases and pots of flowers. Palette is light and brush strokes are quick. Measures apprx 31"H x 39"W. In gold colored frame, entire item measures apprx 34"H x 42"W. Provenance: Bought from Kennedy Galleries, New York; sticker on verso.  
  44. Antique Russian Priest Figure, ca. 19th Century A seated monk or holy man, of hand carved wood, no signature found, approx. 7" H x 3" W. The figure appears to be sitting on a chair with part of the rails visible under his arms. He wears ecclesiastical garb and a hooded cape.  
  360. Tammany Mechanical Bank, circa 1875 Movable cast iron bank made by J.E. Stevens Co. Male politician/banker takes your coin in his right hand and deposits it into his pocked with a grateful nod of his head. Seated man wears a mustache and bow tie and sits on an open work chair that reads Tammany Bank. Back of seat reads Patd Dec 23 1873. Screw bottom reads Patd June 8 ,1875. Measures apprx 6"H x 4-1/4"W. 
  251. Decorative Bronze Philosopher Bronze figure of a man posed in thought, dated apprx 1890. He sits on a four-legged stool with one hand up to his cheek, a thoughtful expression on his face. He wears a classical Roman garment and props his feet up on a trunk. Much attention has been paid to the details in the man's face as well as his garments. A rounded panel painting sits beneath the chair and he rests his right arm on a scroll. It is originally from a clock. Bronze has greenish-brown patina. Unsigned, this piece measures apprx 9" x 5".  
  355. Charles Eames Chair, Mid 20th Century This piece by Charles Eames for Herman Miller is a molded chair on chrome frame and has original paper label on verso. The finish is original with wear throughout and chipped veneer on back rest. Two rubber mounts on feet are missing. Chair measures apprx 29" x 19-1/2" x 21-1/2". 
  357. A Carved Oak Arm Chair A fine yellow oak chair with carved relief of lion paws on the arm rests and decorative back rest over five carved spindles. Chair measures apprx 34-1/2" h x 24-3/4 w x 18" d.  
  358. Victorian Gilded and Carved Chair Late 19th century Victorian chair. Ornately carved wooden chair has gilding on body. Has been recently upholstered with tan fabric, accented by lovely deep pink roses and multi-colored butterflies. Measures apprx 33" tall x 18" wide x 15" in diameter.  
  378. Michael Garman (American 20th Century) A great sculptural lamp by American artist Michael Garman. This unique lamp depicts an ordinary man wearing gray pants and a brown jacket sitting in a old green armchair. Pieces of stuffing are beginning to come out of the chair and he is hunched in front of the T.V. watching a Cleveland Browns football game. A table next to him is laden with empty beer cans, a pack of Kool cigarettes and matches. A copy of Celibates magazine is tossed behind the television and a box of sugar daddies is thrown on the floor. Lamp has a plug that will fit into a two-prong American wall socket. Signed Michael Garman on base and dated 1986. Measures apprx 15" x 12."  
  466. Ornate Gilt Chair, circa 19th Century Lovely hand carved chair with upholstered seat. Back is delicate with scrolling shapes and a shell-shape in the center of the top. Fabric on seat is patterned with pink roses at center of diamonds. Carved apron and narrow legs ending in padded feet with scrolled decoration. Measures apprx 36"H x 18"W.  
  472. Pair of "Louis Ghost Chairs" by Philippe Starck, designed for Kartell Pair of clear acrylic chairs designed by Philippe Starck for Kartell. An homage to the shape of chair designed for King Louis reinterpreted through the skill of the contemporary master of design, utilizing updated material and technology. Apprx 36-1/2"H x 21-1/2"W.  
  179. John Pearson (English/American, born 1940) "Mondrian Series". Suite of four silkscreens, each numbered and signed. Printed by the artist in seven colors on Rives BFK paper during summer of 1974 at Oberlin College of the 62 portfolios and 4 artist proofs in the ed. 52 were for the CWRUPC (The University Print Club) and fourteen were retained by the artist. This selection of four silkscreens in hand signed and by the artist and numbered 35/62. All measure approx. 21" square. John Pearson was born in 1940 in Yorkshire, England. He attended Akademie Der Bildenden Kunst, in Munich, Germany, and the Royal Academy Schools in London. He has taught at the University of New Mexico, the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design, and the Cleveland Institute of Art, before reaching his current position as the Chair of the Department of Art at Oberlin College. His work is featured in the collections of the New York Museum of Modern Art, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, the Tel Aviv Museum of Fine Arts, and the Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts, in Hangzhou, China, among others. He has been commissioned for work by numerous Cleveland organizations, including Case Western Reserve University's Peter B. Lewis Center, the Cleveland Plain Dealer, and the Cleveland Justice Center.  
  5. A Carved Cedar Head, Egyptian ca. Late Kingdom Possibly a chair ornamentation, carved from cedar wood. Three pegs at the cheeks and neck for attachment. Flat top and back. Apprx 4" x 4" x 2". With black plexi stand.  
  372. Pair of 19th Century French Fauteuils with Original 18th Tapestry A fabulous pair of French arm chairs with carving throughout, including a central pair of flowers at the top of the back rest and on the base of the chair. Single flowers are carved on both front legs as well. Original tapestry upholstery depicts a man playing a musical instrument with a dog at his feet on the back and various designs including a pair of birds, possibly peacocks on the seat of one chair. The other chair depicts a woman who appears to be sewing with a cat or perhaps a small dog on the back of the other and similar designs, including a pair of small dogs on the seat. The upholstery is secured by brass tacks and horse hair is probably under the arms and the backs of the chairs.  
  382. Side Chair with Embroidered Cushion Lovely chair, possibly fruitwood or maple, features a lute design on back with arms terminating in carved wooden swans. Buttery-yellow cushion is embroidered with pale pink, blue and green flowers. Chair measures apprx 33"H x 22"W x 20"D.  
  Victorian high back carved walnut chair with needle point seat, circa 1880. 41" tall by 20" wide with a 17" high seat. 
  Victorian upholstered chair with wood inlay. Chair has matching pillow and rod to be positioned to adjust back angle. Very good condition. 36" tall, 27" wide and 29" deep. 
  SIXTH PLATE DAGUERREOTYPE OF MAN WITH QUIRKY SPECTACLES,  seated on a chair and grasping a paper in his hand. The man sports a long goatee and white framed glasses. Image is in excellent condition, with mat in brown Union case with geometric pattern. 
  NINTH PLATE DAGUERREOTYPE OF A CHUBBY BOY,  a cute toddler seated on a chair covered with cloth with elaborate patterns. The dark leather case is in wonderful shape, with gold highlights around the rim and a single latch. With original mat and protective glass. 
  HALF PLATE DAGUERREOTYPE OF A YOUNG GIRL,  with a painted background. A young girl is standing next to a chair in front of elaborately painted backdrop. An overhanging tree is in the foreground, and in the background is a lake filled with sailboats and several houses along the shoreline. The girl's skin is tinted a peach color. The plate has some perimeter tarnish, scratches and spots but the overall image is very good. Pieces of the original seal remain. The case is worn and severed at the spine. 
  QUARTER PLATE DAGUERREOTYPE OF A GIRL BESIDE TABLE,  covered with a lovely cloth with an intricate design. The large hat on the table and chair behind it makes the group of props almost as eye catching as the sitter. Plate is in excellent condition. The mat is spotty and is stamped C. Ward at the bottom right. Case with geometric patterns and severed at the spine. 
  ID'D CIVIL WAR CAMP CHAIR OF LT. HENRY GREBE, 93RD USCT,  typical turned wood camp chair with original carpet seat with faded name on back Grebe for Lt. Henry Grebe, 93rd U.S. Colored Troops, 16" x 17" x 30" high, seat is 16" high. 
  GERMAN LADY AT SEWING MACHINE PAINTED TIN PLATE WINDUP TOY,
with polychrome painted lady seated at a chair and working at a treadle-type sewing machine, mounted on rectangular tin platform, with fixed key in lower side of machine leg, spring-driven movement. When operated fly-wheel revolves and bobbin, needle and lady's arm move up and down, 3" x 5.5" x 5.75" high, unmarked.

beautifully molded store display of an grandmotherly lady seated in ca 1920's overstuffed arm chair with ogee feet wearing full-length black dress, gray shawl and bonnet with her sewing basket and work on lap. She is not working at her sewing, but rather smiling and staring straight ahead. We believe this was used to advertise Crosley Radios and all her attention is being taken by the radio, thus ignoring her sewing. In original polychrome painted surface with large embossed lettering on either side of chair Crosley, printed paper label on interior, crown from with Old King Cole, Canton, Ohio, 16" square x 38" high.

  OUTSTANDING 9-PIECE COTTAGE PINE BEDROOM SET. A really great example of the hand decorated 19th C furniture. Set consists of a nicely decorated bed, matching mirrored chest, matching commode, matching stand, four chairs and a boudoir rocker (rocker and one side chair have slightly different decoration). Headboard, lavishly decorated with a vignette of nicely painted flowers centered by a scenic panel depicting lake, mountains, sailboat, etc. A particularly nice set, hard to fine in this condition. CONDITION: Generally very good to excellent. There are some scuffs and scrapes scattered throughout the set but in general the colors are very bright and strong. Decoration on the headboard is particularly nice.

  RARE CONVERSE HANSOM CAB. Early clockwork tin vehicle painted black with yellow pinstripes and floral accents. Raised on yellow tin wheels with rubber tires. High backseat driver's chair has steering tiller. Large passenger area in green with red foot board. SIZE: 10-1/2" l. x 8" h. CONDITION: Some minor chipping to roof and light scratches around keyhole (missing key), shallow bends to cab walls, otherwise very good and apparently all original.  
  LOT OF 2 DISNEY TOYS. 1) Minnie Mouse knitting on rocker. When toy is wound rocking chair rocks back and forth, Minnie knits and her ears swing back and forth. They reflect many features of his work including careful proportions and a functionalist design of austere elegance. These chairs are apprx 33-1/2" x 34" x 25-1/2". There is a sticker on the verso of one cushion indicating that these were completed on July 27, 1978 by the Knoll Furniture Company for the National City Bank of Chicago. On verso of the other chair is an inventory number sticker.
 
 
  193. Pair of Gentleman and Lady's Chairs

A gentleman's chair, with arms and a lady's chair without arms, circa 1920-1930. Both chairs with extensive carving throughout including rosette and leaf decorations on the arms, around the bases on the sides of the back as well as around the frame and on the top of the chair. The rush backs also have a wooden rosette carved in the center. The stretcher is carved and turned as well. Legs are carved and end on wood castors. On verso of the lady's chair is a sticker reading "The Elgin A Simonds Company Furniture Syracuse NY". On verso of both chairs are stickers that indicate additional information from the purchase including "name: L. Baumberger, pattent no. 2972, finish: ant, upholstry: 944, order no.: T4375 Dpt.70. They are apprx 45-1/2" x 25" x24" and 41-3/4" x 18-1/2" x 17-1/2".

Carved wooden Senufo chair was orignially purchased by Craft Caravan in New York in 1975. This chair has a sturdy wooden seat with very little ornamentation. Side panels are accented with hand-carved X-shapes. Decorative backrest and simple legs. Overall measures apprx 29" x 26" x 20".
