Unsigned. Partial placard inscribed "Lady Anne Dawson" and additional paper label affixed, en verso of stretcher. Housed in a 19th century molded giltwood frame with leaf and tongue sight edge, bead reel outer edge, and placard with "Lady Anne Dawson Irish ca. 1755" affixed to lower sight edge. Sight: 38" H x 28 1/2" W. Framed: 45 5/8" H x 36 1/8" W. Note: Lady Anne Dawson was the beloved, late wife of Viscount Cremorne Thomas Dawson. Though she died at a very young age, she had a few portraits commissioned including one by Sir Joshua Reynolds, which now resides in the collection of Her Majesty the Queen, and others among the collection of London's National Portrait Gallery.
Condition:
Overall good condition with relined canvas. Areas of canvas fluoresce under UV light, particularly in the background around the subject's hair and in the lower portion of her dress, largest section measuring 2 1/4" x 1 1/4". Frame with significant wear including losses, largest measuring 1 1/2" x 1/2".

Anne Boleyn was Queen of England from 1533 to 1536 as the second wife of King Henry VIII. She was the mother of the future Queen Elizabeth. She was accused of treason and beheaded by Henry to clear the way for his third wife, Jane Seymour (and the Reformation).
