U.S. MODEL 1873 SPRINGFIELD CARBINEModel 1873 "Trapdoor" Springfield Carbine, .47, serial #143002, with percussion action, adjustable rear sight and sling attachment on left of magazine. Stock is stamped with an image of an eagle, while breech is stamped "VPP" with a symbol of an eagle head between the second and third letters, and "R" is stamped on the top of the breech. Right of magazine is stamped "U.S. Springfield" with an image of an eagle. Stock behind percussion hammer stamped "U.S. Model 1873". Barrel length - 22", Overall length - 40 3/4". Firearms made after 1898 require passing an FFL background check prior to transfer. Please be prepared with proper identification. Late 19th century.
Condition:
Decorative eagle on buttstock a later addition, good bore, cartouche not visible which indicates government acceptance, minor losses to stock, minor oxidation to barrel.

All midshipmen CDVs with F.M Zuller, Richfields Springs, and U.S. Naval Academy markings verso. Large CDV of older gentleman in full uniform, lower margin, "Perry B. Dawley, Ens. Sergt. N.A. 1887" (Served in Company F 1st Regiment Volunteers Rhode Island as a private in 1861, post war served in the Newport Artillery - Rhode Island). Two large CDVs of the same gentleman, Bob Mitchell, one showing him in a naval uniform. Another post Civil war CDV with a soldier holding a rifle (possible 1873 Springfield trapdoor?), and a photographic print of a gentleman in uniform, verso in ink, "New dress uniform compliments C. E. Nelson D. Co. 23rd". Archive also includes a small tintype of two gentleman in formal attire (prob. Rhode Island), a large cabinet card of a seated dog similar to a collie, and a CDV showing a harbor (possibly Boston area). 2nd grouping - Three (3) Spanish American War era photographs books. 1st book includes an encampment scene from Camp Fornance and several photographs of Camp Meade showing various training activities with soldiers, four pages (approx. 16 photographs) showing a visit to Gettysburg, additional photographs of Camp Fornance in South Carolina, and a page showing pictures of the end of the 1st Rhode Island Vol. Infantry and the lowering of the flag, dated 1899. Last page titled, "Returning home". 2nd photographic book has the first page showing Brigade Camp, Difficult Run, June 28-30, 1898 - 1st Rhode Island, 2nd Tenn, 3rd Missouri. Following pages show Camp Dyer, Quonset Point, Difficult Run with photos of poor blacks and whites, Camp Alger, Camp Meade, Newport Artillery at Fort Adams 1898. 3rd photographic book - domestic scenes from Columbia SC, Christmas 1898, additional scenes of South Carolina including black families, and possibly a 4th of July parade with flags and ribbons draping the town, one arch with the words, "Sampson Santiago".
Condition:
1st grouping - some Naval Academy CDVs have a pinhole where hung, minor toning and some corners bent. 2nd grouping - covers to albums frayed, at least one is detached.

U.S. MODEL 1873 SPRINGFIELD RIFLE AND BAYONET United StatesC. 1873-77.45-70 caliber, serial number 90286, walnut stock with a light cartouche on the left side, and "K/G/9" and "45" on the comb of the butt near the butt plate tang, blued finish, marked on the lock plate with an eagle and "U.S./SPRINGFIELD", breech block marked "U.S./MODEL/1873", with "V/P" over an eagles head on the left side of the breech, a cleaning rod, a modern sling, and a bayonet.

Model 1873 Springfield Trapdoor Rifle .45-70 cal. 32.5'' barrel S/N 71122. Large VPĀ and eagle; early lockplate with 1873 date high arch breechblock. No lip hammer. Long wrist walnut stock. Condition: All metal is brown with some pitting. Bore is fair and might clean to better. Stock with nicks and dings.

Barrel measures 32 1/2'' 52'' overall.CONDITION: Note surface pitting due to poor storage last 16 1/2'' of barrel typical dings and scratches to stock.

Action works fine.CONDITION: Note alligatoring to stock no cleaning rod o carrying ring typical scratches and dings to be expected.
