[Political Americana - Lincolniana][Political Americana - Lincolniana] Herbert Georg Studio Album of Early New Salem IL Businesses & Homes Including Lincoln-Berry Store An album of 25 8'' x 10'' photographs of the reconstructed homes at New Salem Illinois the small village where Lincoln began his adult life and from where he was first elected to public office. Lincoln lived in the town in the 1830s and it had nearly disappeared by the second half of the 19th century. During the Great Depression it was rebuilt by the Civilian Conservation Corps as a memorial to the former president and the frontier way of life and these photographs by noted Springfield photographer Herbert George were taken shortly after the project's completion.
