PARIS AMERICAN LEGION MEDAL 1927 Pierre Victor Dautel designed this medal in 1927 and it was struck at the Paris mint. It commemorated the visit of The American Legion to Paris. It depicted a farmer and a soldier holding hands with the words "Pour Toujours" (Forever).

Foye Bosworth Post No. 2 Portland ME who served with 17th Maine Infantry until September 29 1864 when he transferred into the 1st Maine Heavy Artillery for the remainder of the war and beyond. G.A.R. calling card of Andrew Saunders Gelcich Post No. 106 Los Angeles CA who served with the 17th Maine Infantry from August 1862 was wounded at Gettysburg and transferred into the Veteran Reserve Corps in June 1864 PLUS the calling card of his wife Mrs. S.A. Saunders Gelcich Corps No. 50 Los Angeles bearing the badge of the Women's Relief Corps PLUS the actual medal from her badge dated 1883. A typed letter on G.A.R. Dept. of Maine letterhead dated 1934 signed by George A. Wheeler who served with the 18th Maine Infantry 1st Maine Heavy Artillery and U.S. Volunteers Medical Staff as a Sergeant and Assistant Surgeon appealing for funds to help Maine's Civil War veterans travel to the G.A.R. National Encampment at Rochester. Wheeler who was 97 years old at the time explains in the letter that there are only 128 living veterans in the state and that this will be the last time they attempt to attend the encampment. Seven petitions to the Governor of Maine Henry B. Cleaves from seven different G.A.R. posts recommending Leroy T. Carleton for state Insurance Commissioner.
