Provenance: The Estate of Ruth Hart Eddy sold at auction October 1-2 1971; subsequently to a noted antiquarian. Note: Deming and Bulkley wares featured elaborate carving and exotic wood veneers to appeal to a luxury market; the prolific gilding on this work table is also indicative of the Deming and Bulkley firm whose output often exhibited a well-executed combination of freehand and stencilled applications. Established in New York by cousins Brazilia Deming and Erastus Bulkley the firm also operated successful warerooms in Charleston South Carolina through the 1840s.
