An Antique Chinese Embroidery Panel Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) the rectangular panel with a large roundel depicting a "Royal Gathering" the roundel "framed" by dragons below and fanciful birds and Buddhist emblems above picked out in satin stitch and couched gold and bronze threads on a gold silk ground sight 32 in. x 19 3/4 in. framed. Provenance: According to a 1962 letter attached to the back of the frame this panel was purchased in Japan c. 1900 by U.S. Lieutenant Samuel Reid Gleaves (1878-1926) a veteran of the Boxer Rebellion.
