CAMP SCENE BY TOM H. HALL (1885-1972)AnCAMP SCENE BY TOM H. HALL (1885-1972)An unframed large oil on canvas by Tom H. Hall (1885-1972) of a camp scene with one man cooking on the fire while the other does some patching on a birchbark canoe. Signed T.H. Hall. Tom Hall emigrated from England in 1907 and became a well-known illustrator producing artwork for posters, calendars and magazine covers. He was also commissioned by the Dominion Cartridge Company (owned by C-I-L) where his artwork was the basis of numerous posters and calendars depicting Canadian wildlife and Canadian hunters. In the 1930s Tom Hall was one of the key artists for Canadian Pacific poster designs with his 1938 grizzly poster for CP winning him the Transit Advertisers award for finest poster in the travel division. Throughout the 1930s, 40s and early 1950s his artwork was a mainstay for Rod & Gun in Canada magazine. Dimensions, 23" x 37". FRANCAIS: Grande huile sur toile non encadrée de Tom H. Hall (1885-1972). Scène d’un camp avec un homme cuisinant sur le feu, et d'un autre faisant réparant un canot. Signé T.H. Hall.
