Belle Epoque platinum pendent watch by Verger for Tiffany & Co circa 1910 oval platinum case encircled by small rose-cut diamonds and seed pearls on front and reverse each side inset with oval miniatures painted en grisaille of angels and children freeing doves; movement signed: Made for Tiffany & Co By Verger France 18 Jewels 5 adjustments; case marked: 4422 Verger France; held on chain set with platinum and diamond plaques and seed pearls and extended 14K white gold rope chain. pendant L1 1/2'' W1 1/4'' chain L14'' and extension L10 1/4'' Total 1.04 troy oz all in Provenance: Ballentine South Carolina collection. Other Notes: Verger Freres made magnificent objects d'art and jewels. Founder of this great firm was Ferdinand Verger (1851-1928) both a jeweler and watchmaker in 1896. The firm beginning in 1879 Ferdinand Verger started to work as an agent for the famous house of Vacheron Consantin Verger produced pieces for the finest houses in the world such as Cartier Lacloche Freres Hermes Van Cleef & Arpels Tiffany Gubelin and Boucheron. The partnership between Verger Freres and Vacheron Constantin was formally dissolved in 1938. The house of Verger was unique in that it was involved in all the aspects of jewelry and watch making. It employed an array of artisans whom were fully employed by the firm. There is slight loss to the front painting in four very small areas on the outside edge which are background only there is also a very small black dot under the watch hands just off the center the hands have made a slight scratch just outside the 2 o’clock and three o’clock area which is only visible with magnification the crystals are very slightly scratched the painting on the reverse is in good condition with no visible loss. The watch is in working order at this time although we do not guarantee timepieces to be working. the platinum case diamonds and pearls are in good condition as is the chain.

APPLIQUE QUILT. American 3rd quarter-19th century cotton. Rising Sun/Sunburst pattern hand appliqued and quilted. Red sashing and diamond border. 74'' x 96''. ''Lizzie Crater's Quilt'' appears in ink on the front and on the reverse side a signature reads ''L A Crater.'' An accompanying note reads'' ...made by Great-Grandmother Eliza Ballentine 1857''. Wear on binding and a few thin areas on red fabric. In the outer corners of the border pieced stars are quilted with tiny heart outlines at their centers. Fabrics include solid red and a butterscotch print. The blocks are 14 inches square; 3 1/2' wide borders; 7-9 stitches to the inch counting on the top side of the quilt only. The quilt is handmade with appliqué and reverse-appliqué piecing. Batting is thin and even and the backing is muslin. Handed down in the Ballentine family (NY State).
