Similar to examples by Karl Griesbaum, hand painted 18th century style pastoral scenes, engine-turned and guilloche panels, bird-form lever slides to open the oval hinged lid revealing a feathered bird. Stamped "935" only underneath. In a fitted presentation case, with key. A very small spot of white enamel missing at one side. The key fits the wind, and turns; bird pops up and moves slightly. Lid requires some manipulation. Bird does not tweet. 4" wide. ESTIMATE $4,000-6,000

CAMBODIAN SMALL STERLING SILVER BIRD BOXCambodian sterling silver vessel or box in the form of a bird, possibly a snipe. Decorated throughout with intricate repousse details. Impressed along the interior "De In Cambodge" (Made in Cambodia) with a maker's mark DAC impressed along the underside. Tested as sterling.
Height: 2 1/2 in x width: 5 1/4 in x depth: 2 1/2 in. Gross weight of sterling: 2.815 Troy oz.
Condition:
The bird is in excellent condition; no visible dents, cracks, or chips. Light wear along the underside and inner side, consistent with its age and use. There is oxidation to an area where it opens. Along the back of the bird, there are some areas with white accretions in recessed areas, possibly from a previous polishing. No sign of restoration under UV light.
