19TH CENT FRENCH EMPIRE GILT BRONZE MANTEL CLOCKDESCRIPTION: 19th Cent French Empire Gilt Bronze Mantel Clock. Titled ‘Au Bon Savage’ or ‘The Stretcher Bearers’. The case is attributed to Parisian bronze caster Louis-Isidore Choiselat (1784-1853) aka Choiselat-Gallen. The clock features two exceptional figures, blackamoors, carrying a bale of cotton surmounted by a chained musician monkey holding cane sticks in his hand. The blackamoor figures, each with enamel eyes and ormolu dress. The stretcher rests on the shoulders of the blackamoors. The clock base has a broad horizontal band showing sculpted decorations. The white enamel dial with signature ‘Godeby à Paris’, has Roman numerals, gilt-steel Directoire style hands for the hours and minutes. The 8 day movement with anchor escapement, silk thread suspension, striking on the hour and half hours on a bell, with outside count wheel. CIRCA: 1815 ORIGIN:France DIMENSIONS: H: 17.5" W: 13.75 D:4.75" CONDITION: Great condition.
