- AN AMERICAN ART DECO GLASS TOPPED BRASS
AN AMERICAN ART DECO GLASS TOPPED BRASS "PELICAN" SIDE ...AN AMERICAN ART DECO GLASS TOPPED BRASS "PELICAN" SIDE TABLE, 20TH CENTURY, of square form and a reticulated top centering a ringed spread-winged pelican gazing downwards towards her chicks amidst a branch nest in shallow relief, issuing cross form panels framing stemmed leaves alternating stylized radiating corner beams, set within a conforming molded border on square form legs joined by an "X" form stretcher centering an open ring, including an associated glass top. Height: 22" Width: 28 1/2" Depth: 28 1/2" Note: It has been suggested that the top framed pelican panel resembles the Brown Pelican used in the Louisiana State Seal, with spread wings and head turned downwards to nesting chicks. The color of the brass in the top is slightly different than that of the base as is their construction. This points to the possibility that the top is salvaged from a Louisiana Art Deco/Moderne period building. Provenance: Property from a Prominent River Oaks Estate Collection, Houston, Texas
Condition:
Good condition with normal marks, scratches, oxidized spots, dings, and general light wear throughout. Simpson Galleries strongly encourages in-person inspection of items by the bidder.
