LOT NOTES
Few materials lie outside of Henry Khudyakov`s reach – glitter, phosphorescent paint, Band-Aids, computer printouts, and construction paper all regularly make an appearance in the multifaceted, and often unexpected, work of the renegade artist. As one critic noted Partially as a result of his cosmic outlook, no canvas can be too bright for [the] creator. … His works cannot be summed up casually; although, many of them can be connected to each other as cells of a living organism. It's a creation of a new dynamic mysterious cosmos from customary objects. It's better not only to see his creations but be surrounded by them, feel them, and wear as a perfume those simple but surprisingly fresh images. As other Fluxus artists, Khudyakov envisioned and attempted to imbue the everyday with art – elevating the humbles of materials to fine art status.
Henry Khudyakov`s works can be found in private and museum collections, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

- JAPANESE CHAMPLEVE BRONZE VASElate Qing
JAPANESE CHAMPLEVE BRONZE VASElate Qing dynasty, of baluster form, having champlev‚ wisteria decoration, mark on base, 12-3/4 in.
Note: Champlev‚ is an enameling technique in the decorative arts, or an object made by that process, in which troughs or cells are carved, etched, die struck, or cast into the surface of a metal object, and filled with vitreous enamel. The piece is then fired until the enamel fuses, and when cooled the surface of the object is polished. The uncarved portions of the original surface remain visible as a frame for the enamel designs; typically they are gilded in medieval work.[1] The name comes from the French for "raised field", "field" meaning background, though the technique in practice lowers the area to be enameled rather than raising the rest of the surface.
Provenance: Private Collection, Colorado
Condition:
scratching, scuffing, discoloration, pinholes to champleve (as made), a few areas of loss to champleve
- STEVE FERGUSON (B. 1946) "ALPHA"Steve
STEVE FERGUSON (B. 1946) "ALPHA"Steve Ferguson (American, B. 1946) "Alpha" Signed lower left. Original Mixed Media on Cold Press Illustration Board.
Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation.
This painting was originally published on the Fleetwood First Day Cover for the U.S. 32c Alpha Classic Collection Series stamp issued July 19, 1997.
In 1928, Jack Northrup left his job with Lockheed and started his own airplane company. Northrup's first plane appeared in 1930, a speedy, six-passenger, cabin monoplane called the Alpha. Designed to be used as a mail and passenger carrier for TWA, the streamlined, low-winged, single-engine plane was made entirely of metal -- unusual for the time. Covered with stressed-skin duralumin, the Alpha sported one of the strongest and most resilient wings in all of aviation. The unique wing was designed with internal multicellular construction, consisting of aluminum spars and ribs that formed a series of small, rigid compartments or cells -- much like those of a honeycomb.

- A DAVID ANDERSEN SILVER AND PLIQUE A
A DAVID ANDERSEN SILVER AND PLIQUE A JOUR ENAMEL VESSELThe Norwegian silver vessel in the form of a Dragestil long boat displays a row of circular openwork Viking warrior shields above a band of meandering foliate motif all sculpted in silver stock and filled with glass enamels of plique a jour (French for 'letting in daylight') that are more delicately colored and beautifully shaded than most examples. This particularly unusual example also differs in that the base is a design of plique a jour openwork displaying red berries among scrolling foliate openwork designs - as opposed to the solid base typically seen on these longboats. The edge of the base foot is stamped with the hallmark of the maker David Andersen and 925 for the silver standard of Sterling.Measures 3.75 x 6.5 x 3 inches.Very good tarnished condition with considerable patina. There are no chips, repairs, losses or areas of heavy wear. Some cells display crazing in the enamel work.Provenance: The collection of Josephine Bird Hall (1888 - 1948) by descent to her son, the present owner. Josephine's father was a founder of Kansas City's Emery, Bird, Thayer Department Store.
- RARE MARIUS HAMMER VIKING WARRIOR PLIQUE
RARE MARIUS HAMMER VIKING WARRIOR PLIQUE A JOUR SILVERThe large Norwegian silver vessel in the form of a Dragenstil long boat is built by hand in elaborate openwork motifs that, unlike any other example on record, include rows of Viking warrior masks, figural battle axes, shields in high relief with protruding bosses, a band of ocean wave motif, entwined serpents along the keel, and dragon heads among various decorative borders - all sculpted from silver stock and filled with jewel-tone glass enamels creating the look of brilliant stained glass. The technique of plique a jour - French for 'letting in daylight' - creates the intense colors on this larger-than-usual example with elaborate plique a jour stand, rather than a small solid oval pedestal base as is typically the case. The work bears a tag stamped with the maker's hallmark and the silver standard mark of 930s, a higher silver content than that of Sterling.Measures 8.5 x 12.5 x 5 inches.Very good condition. There are no chips, cracks, repairs, losses, or areas of heavy wear. Several cells show crazing of the enamel when back lit.Provenance: The collection of Josephine Bird Hall (1888 - 1948) by descent to her son, the present owner.
