An American Aesthetic Movement BrassAn American Aesthetic Movement Brass Table attributed to Charles Parker Company Meriden CT rectangular top with relief of a bird and foliage floral bracketed supports conforming relief-molded stretcher shelf outswept saber legs height 24 1/2 in. width 18 7/8 in. depth 13 1/4 in. Note: Between 1840 and 1890 American manufacturers began to expand the use of metals like iron brass and bronze beyond utilitarian and outdoor objects with innovations in industrial metalworking techniques. "Artistic Bronze Goods" became popular with style-conscious consumers in the 1880's. Firms like the Charles Parker Company (Connecticut 1832-1957) made complex furniture and accessories for indoor use such as tables accent chairs mirrors fireplace tools and lighting often with an enthusiasm for Aesthetic "Japonisme" design such as the lot seen here.
