MARCELLE FERRON, GOQ, RCA (1924-2001)MARCELLE FERRON, GOQ, RCA (1924-2001) CANADIANMarcelle Ferron, G.O.Q., R.C.A., oil on card, 7 x 7 ¾ inches (uneven). Verso: signed and with a small label inscribed ‘Ferron 86’. Catalogue note: Marcelle Ferron was part of "Les Automatistes" group, led by Paul-Émile Borduas. As Ferron's career progressed, her paintings became progressively more forceful with vibrant colours dominating the canvas. Like fellow automatistes Borduas & Jean Paul Riopelle, Ferron applied paint to the canvas thickly, with great intensity and often straight from the tube, the palette knife her tool of choice. This small but powerful example exemplifies these early traits.
