LOUIS XIII QUÉBEC COMMODEAn impressiveLOUIS XIII QUÉBEC COMMODEAn impressive Louis XIII commode with palmette as featured in Palardy's "The Early Furniture of French Canada", plate 459. This piece has a "flat three-drawer façade with small moulded and shaped panels derived from Dauphine or Lyonnais". The drawer pulls which appear to be the original are mounted on raised panels with carved decorative trim around them. Lapped and moulded drawer fronts. There are carved floral decorations at the base of each front corner. Front and sides in pine, top in birch. Refinished. Québec, late 18th century. Measuring, 35" high x 42" wide x 25.75" deep.
QUÉBEC CARRIOLE BEDA pine single "Carriole"QUÉBEC CARRIOLE BEDA pine single "Carriole" (or sleigh) bed derived from the late Empire style, the headboard and footboard featuring a heavy scalloped edge around the perimeter with a thick hand carved vine in the centre of the panel. All 4 edges of the headboards also have a shaped frame with naive appliqué carvings. Old refinished condition. This bed is included in Palardy's 1963 book "The Early Furniture of French Canada", see full page photograph, plate 215. Québec, early 19th century. Measuring, 72" long x 44" wide.
QUÉBEC PINE CUPBOARDA very good glazedQUÉBEC PINE CUPBOARDA very good glazed pine flat to the wall cupboard in an old refinished condition. From Québec with many decorative features such as a built up cornice with dentil and bead moulding beneath it. Quarter columns on the upper and lower portion of the cupboard with decorative carving. Beaded openings on the upper door openings. Reeded surrounds on the frames of the lower doors with beaded rectangular accents on them. A substantial cut out bracket base with a central decorative detail at the centre of the base. Original cast iron hardware throughout. Hand forged nails throughout. Shelves that align with the glazing bars. This cupboard is included in Palardy's 1963 book "The Early Furniture of French Canada", see full page photograph, plate 170. Measuring, 6'8" high x 49" wide x 17.25" deep (at waist).

Measuring, 72" long x 38" high x 20" deep.
LOUIS XIII SIDE CHAIRAn 18th centuryLOUIS XIII SIDE CHAIRAn 18th century Québec Louis XIII side chair with a baluster back and upholstered seat. In birch, the turnings on the front legs and stretchers are in the classic vase and cube style while the back legs are chamfered. Original button feet. The back crest and middle rail are shaped and slightly curved. The turned balusters are replaced and a small chip has been repaired on the back crest. See Palardy's Early Furniture of French Canada, plates 273 & 276, for similar examples. Circa 1730-50. H: 37"; W: 18"; D: 15".
