SMITH & WESSON 38 FIRST MODEL TOP BREAK REVOLVERSmith and Wesson 38 Safety Hammerless 1st model new departure top-break 5 shot revolver. Serial #4618, .38 S&W, scarce 5" barrel with a lightly oxidized and pitted bore. This excellent "Z-bar" revolver retains about 90% plus original nickel plate with scattered light oxidation blemishes, pitting and handling marks with evidence of limited light cleaning. The trigger guard retains about 50% blue finish with light handling wear, freckling and pitting. The hammer has beautiful case-hardened colors with light operational wear and the face worn to pewter. The diamond checkered hard rubber grips rate excellent but are not numbered to the gun (#24783). The frame to barrel fit has slight play but the gun is mechanically functional.
