JAPANESE MEIJI SILK EMBROIDERY OF TWO LIONSA stunning example of Japanese Meiji period silk embroidery of the finest quality depicting a lion and a lioness. Excellent craftsmanship and very well preserved. This embroidery is similar to works signed by Kato Rihei (1847-1986). Born to a family in the silk trade of Owari (Aichi) prefecture, he parlayed the connections he made to the point that he was able to produce commissions in silk for the imperial household. The back and original label is retained and reads: Purveyor to H.I.J.M's Household S.
