A Pair of Kutani Geisha Boudoir Lamps The circular porcelain bases each have one bulb socket marked on the underside in iron red "Kutani"; the lift-off top portions are pierced for ventilation. Each is hand decorated in polychrome glazes picked out in gilt in a mirror image of the other with a Geisha standing in front of a flowering tree on a balcony gazing at distant mountains inscription in a square behind her. Tokaido 53 Tsugi Kyoto Meisho (scenic place in Kyoto of 53 stages of Tokaido Road). The plastic switch (marked Asahi and a picture of the rising sun) and the plastic socket cast with Tokyo information in English. Apprx. 10-1/8"H. Most probably ca. 1930's.
