Browne studied at the Museum of Fine Arts and the Cowles School of Art in Boston and later in Paris at the Academie Julian under Jules Lefevbre and Tony Robert-Fleury. Upon his return to the United States, Browne founded the Browne Art Classes and spent many summers in Provincetown, Massachusetts.
