Relined; 4" patch with corresponding inpainting visible under black light to subject's right shoulder area, additional 1" surface scratch to shoulder area, 4" area of inpaint in upper left background, 2" area of scattered blanching/white residue spots to area around subject's hand. Stretcher is loose in frame at top.

Condition:
Old relining; black light indicates possible varnish losses or overpainting in the background just above subject's head. Some cupping to canvas in same area; scattered minor losses to frame.

Ink and blue pencil drawing of a woman reading a book by Manuel Robbe (French, 1872–1936).
Very Good. Mild overall toning, a few creases and edgewear.
Manuel Robbe was influenced by Renoir and other French Impressionists, exhibited at the Societe des Artistes Francais (winning a gold medal at the Exposition Universelle of 1900) and at the Societe Nationale des Beaux-Arts. He was known for drawing and printmaking.
Framed size is 22" x 26".
