Michael Steele Churchman (American,Michael Steele Churchman (American, 1903-1996), spring landscape with couple holding hands in the foreground, watercolor; 5 1/2" x 7 1/2"; signed lower right. Churchman was born in Indianapolis and received a degree in civil engineering from Purdue University. He took up art upon retirement often painting watercolors featuring Indiana landscapes. Founded in 1827 St. Paul's Episcopal Church was originally located in downtown Albany New York on Lancaster Street. ''Old St. Paul's'' and the ninety surrounding blocks were slated for demolition in the 1950s to make way for a new government project Albany's Empire State Plaza. This piece was removed from the building prior to demolition in the mid-1960s.

A native of Maryland, Marshall became a highly regarded Impressionist landscapist. He studied at the Maryland Institute, College of Art and at the Julian Academy in Paris. Exhibitions of his work included one-man shows at the Peabody Institute in 1918, Baltimore Museum of Art in 1932 and Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. Around 1918 he had become a minister, taking charge of congregations in Maryland and in his later years, Delaware. In 1957, a retrospective exhibition of his work was held at the Maryland Historical Society and his art is in the permanent collections of the Baltimore Museum of Art.

Elsie Freund was an artist, jewelry designer and crafts person.Duard Marshall, most associated with Kansas City, Missouri, was also a muralist and a student of Thomas Hart Benton. Marshall was, for a time, himself a Regionalist portraying the American scene as demonstrated by the image being offered here.Image size 13.25 x 16, frame measures 22 x 25 inches.Very good to fine condition, the full untrimmed sheet, not laid down, no damage, stain, puncture or repair; framed to archival standards in acid free mounts.
