Barclay is known for his beautiful depictions of women, having done illustrations for Colliers, Country Gentleman, Redbook, Pictorial Review, Coronet, Country Life, Saturday Evening Post, The Ladies' Home Journal, Cosmopolitan and numerous other magazines. Tom Fogarty and George Bridgeman were his most influential teachers at the Art Students League and encouraged him to go into illustration where he created the iconic Barclay's Fisher Body Girl.

12PC MCCLELLAND BARCLAY BRONZE DOG SCULPTURES Missouri, New York, California1891-1943Includes twelve miniature dogs including a Pekingese, two miniature schnauzers, two large schnauzers, a short hair dachshund, a long hair dachshund, an English bulldog, a collie, and other dogs. McClelland studied at the Art Institute of Chicago before studying at the Art Student League under Tom Fogarty and George Bridgeman. During the 1920's and 30's, Barclay's work was featured Colliers, Country Gentleman, Redbook, Pictorial Review, Coronet, Country Life, Saturday Evening Post, The Ladies' Home Journal, Cosmopolitan, amongst other periodicals of the time. During the 19030's Barclay also created the Fisher Body Girl for General Motors, the successor of the Gibson Girl. During this time Barclay also began to venture into jewelry and utilitarian objects.
