- FIELD SURGICAL KIT C.1917 US MEDICAL
FIELD SURGICAL KIT C.1917 US MEDICAL DEP'T.The appears to be a medical kit of surgical instruments and related supplies packed into a nice small wood case. A metal tag on the outside says "MED DEPT/ USA". When opened the instruments are tightly packed into the cover and and bottom, separated and held in place by metal covers that have scale drawings and names of the instruments contained on that side, probably for fast identification by untrained soldiers during war action. Most of the named instruments are still in place; a few of the scalpels and more expendable and commonly used instruments are gone. The "bullet forceps" is still there. This kit was made by the KNY-Scheerer Co. in New York and was probably for use during WWI. Instrument condition is quite fine. The box shows moderate use and wear. One brass corner protector on the top section is missing. Hinges and locks work.
