Buyer is Nehemiah Olmsted (aka Olmstead) of Fairfield, who came to the continent as part of the Puritan Migration, which began with the Pilgrims' arrival in 1620. Document measures about 11" x 8". This document is one of several dozen important signed pieces in today's sale that were part of a large collection of American historical documents from 1650 through WWII. The estate collection, assembled from about 1920-1960, hasnever been offered for sale at auction. Some text fading, as shown, as well as creases and some chipping. See images. MASSACHUSETTS NEEDLEWORK. Silk on linen. Signed ''Wrought by Elizabeth Kendall Greenwich aged 12 years / under tuition of Persis Dodd Princton [sic] 1813''. Three plump dove-like birds appear in the tree branches and among the flowers. A large basket with additional blooms is on the ground. Imperfections. In a period decorated frame 18''h. 17''w. Ex David Good (Ohio). Elizabeth was born to Samuel and Molly Kendall in April 25 1801 in Greenwich Hampshire County. She married Joseph Raymond in 1830 and the couple raised three children in Royalston where she died in 1887. The instructess Persis Dodd had connections to Princeton in neighboring Worchester County as she was born there in 1791 to William and Anna Dodd. In 1815 she married Leonard Woods in Enfield Hampshire County. Both Greenwich and Enfield were disincorporated in 1938 and flooded to creat the Quabbin Reservoir. Some loss to silk stitches maining in the upper right corner. The background linen is tender and has been stitched to additional backing. Some toning on edges and center of tree. Soften colors in shades of gold. blues and tans.
