ERIC SLOANE (AMERICAN, 1905-1985) "CLOUDS AND SNOW" Oil on artist board. Signed 'Sloane' (lower right) and tilted 'Clouds and Snow' (lower left).
Eric Sloane (American, 1905-1985)
Eric Sloane was an American landscape painter, illustrator, and author of illustrated books on the cultural history and folklore of America. He painted rustic landscapes in the tradition of the Hudson River School. In the 1950s, he began spending part of the year in Taos, New Mexico where he painted western landscapes and particularly luminous depictions of the desert sky. In his career as a painter, he produced over 15,000 works. His fascination with the sky and weather led to commissions to paint works for the US Air Force and the production of several illustrated works on meteorology and weather forecasting. Sloan also had a great interest in New England fold culture, Colonial daily life, and Americana. He wrote and illustrated scores of books on Colonial-era tools, architecture, farming techniques, folklore, and rural wisdom. Every book included detailed illustrations, hand lettered titles, and his characteristic folksy wit and observations.

ALAN BEAN (AMERICAN/TEXAS 1932-2018) A PAINTING, "LOAD ...ALAN BEAN (American/Texas 1932-2018) A PAINTING, "Load 'Em Up...Move 'Em Out," 1986, acrylic on panel, signed and dated L/L, "Alan Bean©1986," verso museum loan label, Butler Museum of American Art, Youngstown, Ohio. 23" x 20" Note: Missions served by Astronaut Alan Bean: Apollo 12 (launched November 14, 1969) and Skylab 3 (launched July 28, 1973). Fourth astronaut to walk on the Moon. Total Spacetime: 1,671 hours and 45 minutes. The story according to Alan Bean himself,The highest priority task Pete Conrad and I were scheduled to accomplish during our first moonwalk on Apollo 12 was the deployment of an unmanned geophysical station. We called it ALSEP, an acronym for Apollo Lunar Surface Experiments Package, and it consisted of a cluster of six experiments all connected to a central command and control station and powered by the first thermonuclear electrical power generator on the Moon.I have painted myself attaching the ALSEP components to either end of a lightweight metal bar. This "high tech barbell" was the best way we could think of to carry all this hardware to a relatively flat spot 300 feet away so the experiments wouldn't be blown over or covered with dust when we blasted off the Moon the next day. The waste-basket-shaped object on the near end of the bar is the seismometer. It measures moonquakes or meteoroid impacts; and, as surprised scientists discovered, our footsteps as we moved about our tasks. The magnetometer with its gold foil-covered sensor arms is just below. In my right hand you can see the bottom of the thermonuclear electric power generator. I can distinctly remember feeling the intense heat from the decaying plutonium fuel element - even through my heavily insulated suit. I wondered if the dedicated and able suit makers on Earth had anticipated this heat and built the suit to withstand it. But I didn't have time to worry about it then. We had to get on with our work. It was time to "load 'em up, and move 'em out." Provenance: Houston Museum of Natural Science, loan 2006-2011.

- SCHLOMI HAZIZA ACRYLIC SCULPTURE**First
SCHLOMI HAZIZA ACRYLIC SCULPTURE**First Time At Auction**
Schlomi Haziza (Israeli, b. 1969). Acrylic sculpture, n.d. Signed on the base. A remarkable sculpture by Israeli artist Schlomi Haziza presenting a mesmerizing ribbon-like form mounted on an integral graduated double circular base in a myriad of brilliant colors with breathtaking translucency. In addition to masterfully rendering this form and coloration, Haziza painstakingly embellished the surfaces with repeating strokes of metallic silver, gold, and copper pigments creating motifs that conjure celestial effects akin to a meteor shower. According to the artist's statement, "Acrylic is the most sophisticated material Haziza has mastered to date. It is an unforgiving, but naturally exciting and expressive medium, with light-refracting properties that give it a unique dynamic. Haziza has spent years finding new ways to use color, metal powders and sculpting techniques to bring out the inner fire of acrylic and breathe life and emotion into every piece he makes." Size: 15.5" L x 19.875" W x 23.7" H (39.4 cm x 50.5 cm x 60.2 cm)
About the artist: "By the time Israeli native Shlomi Haziza was 15 years old, he was already an established artist. While other children were skipping sea stones, he was painting them, a hobby which launched his first venture, Rock Art. It wasn't long before his whimsically painted Rocks were a common feature on doorways throughout Israel and attracting international attention.
While still in his teens, Haziza became known for his work in a variety of mediums. His collages, made from Levi jeans, became popular fixtures in clubs, restaurants and galleries. He even turned his stint in the Israeli army into an opportunity for artistic exploration, painting inspirational pictures and montages on the exterior walls of army bases, work that earned him even greater celebrity.
Traveling internationally since he was young, Haziza has been exposed to much of the world's great architecture, museums and music, all of which have influenced his work. He draws upon his own heritage -- evident in his beautiful pieces of Judaica -- but sites life, travel and the infinite beauty of the world's cultures as the basis for his inspiration. Barely in his twenties, he was granted permanent U.S. residency on the basis of exhibiting 'extraordinary ability'.
Acrylic is the most sophisticated material Haziza has mastered to date. It is an unforgiving, but naturally exciting and expressive medium, with light-refracting properties that give it a unique dynamic. Haziza has spent years finding new ways to use color, metal powders and sculpting techniques to bring out the inner fire of acrylic and breathe life and emotion into every piece he makes.
As entrepreneurial as he is creative, Shlomi Haziza is always looking for the new. His spirit translates directly into his work, which ranges from high-end sophistication to delightful whimsy. Whatever the medium, his work is always inventive, always exciting, always beautiful."

Framed size: 21 3/8 x 23 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches tags: oil painting, landscape, surrealist, modern / contemporary, 20th century Drawing from his imagination and memories, Scott Kahn creates surrealist, dreamlike landscapes of people and places from his life. He considers his work a "visual diary of the world around him."1 Born in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1946, Kahn has maintained a studio in Brooklyn for most of his career. Although he describes himself as a self-taught artist, Kahn earned his BFA from the University of Pennsylvania and his MFA from Rutgers University. He studied at the Art Students League in New York with Theodoros Stamos and met many of the first generation Abstract Expressionists, including Mark Rothko. In a recent review published in the New York Sun, critic Dana Gordon draws parallels between Kahn's work and historical American Art. "Traditions of American art are also brought to mind my Mr. Kahn's work: The compressed (if not repressed) expressionist realism and personal space of Ammi Phillips, Edward Hicks, Grant Wood, John Steuart Curry, and Thomas Hart Benton, as well as the colored light of the Luminists like Martin Johnson Heade." Gordon continues, "In contrast to all those traditions, the narrative in Mr. Kahn's paintings is buried. For good reason: The content of your unconscious is at its most powerful when you don't know what it is. He says, ‘The inspiration can come from something I see repeatedly in my daily life, or can be something I see in a flash.'"2 In 2015, Kahn connected with Canadian artist Matthew Wong through social media. The two formed a friendship inspiring one another and admiring each other's work. Before his untimely death at 35 years old, Wong visited Kahn's Brooklyn studio and helped to promote Kahn's work among his dealers and patrons. After Wong's death his prices have skyrocketed and collectors have clamored for his work. Similarly, dealers and collectors have turned their attention to Scott Kahn who has benefited from renewed attention and a meteoric market rise. Kahn has been the subject of sold out shows at Almine Rech in Paris and Harper Levine in New York. Two museums in China purchased paintings by Kahn from his recent show at Almine Rech and The Long Museum has offered the artist a retrospective in 2024.3 In the United States, his work is in a growing number of public collections including the University of Pennsylvania and the ICA Miami. Kahn was the recipient of an award from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation and the Edward Albee Foundation. 1 "Scott Kahn," Almine Rech, New York, New York 2 Dana Gordon, "Scott Kahn's Intensely ‘Unique Voice' Haunts Manhattan," from The New York Sun (May 2, 2022) 3 Katya Kazakina, "How Septuagenarian Artist Scott Kahn Went From Living in His Cousin's Attic to Selling Out Solo Shows in Just Three Years" in artnet news, May 3, 2022, https://news.artnet.com/market/scott-kahn-2108145 Condition: In excellent original condition; unlined canvas We are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. - ROBERT LOUIS THOMPSON, (AMERICAN, 1937-1966),
ROBERT LOUIS THOMPSON, (AMERICAN, 1937-1966), THE RAISING OF LAZARUS, 1965, OIL ON CANVAS, 9 X 12 IN.ROBERT LOUIS THOMPSON (American, 1937-1966) The Raising of Lazarus 1965, oil on canvas signed, dated, and titled B Thompson '65 / Raising of Lazarus / [indistinct], verso 9 x 12 in. 1965, oil on canvas Dimensions: 9 x 12 in. Provenance: The Estate of Drs. Dorothy and Norman Zinberg. Bob Thompson's short but brilliant eight year career was bookended by summers in Provincetown, Massachusetts, first as an art student in 1958, then,Âin 1965, after a meteoric rise in the New York art scene, as an established artist. In the intervening years Thompson received numerous grants to study and work in Europe, settling at times in France, Spain, and Italy, studying and reimaging the Old Masters thatÂsurrounded him. He rejected abstract expressionism, instead filling his canvases with tightly composed, spontaneously and brightly colored figures, a style of figurative abstraction complete with its own lexicon of symbols. His love of jazz, of poetry, of movement, and of color informed his reinterpretation of the Renaissance and Baroque themes he so intensely respondedÂto. As his friend and fellow student in Provincetown Emilio Cruz wrote, "...it was the time when all young men dripped and splashed, loved Kline and DeKooning, sang praises to Jackson Pollock. Bob didn't do it. Bob loved Ray Charles, Miles Davis, and Piero Della Francesca, a strange toast salad. But it all tasted good because like Bob the ingredients were fresh, vibrating with life and filled his world; he overflowed with color." Like Thompson himself, the present work - painted just one year before Thompson's untimely death at age 28 - overflows with color. Reds and yellows and blues and greens come togetherÂin a compositionÂthat deftly deconstructs and reimagines a classical narrative, in the process highlighting the artist's singularÂvision and distinctive style. Both Zinbergs were accomplished scientists who met as graduate students at Harvard in the 1950s. Dorothy was a beloved Harvard Kennedy School scholar and a pioneering sociologist and biochemist who focused on the relationship between science and public policy. Throughout her storied career, she was a mentor to and advocate for women in the sciences and higher education. Remembered as a generous, humble, and stalwart friend, Dorothy was known for her ability to bring together individuals from all walks of life, hosting legendary salons at her Cambridge home. She and Norman also spent time in Provincetown, Massachusetts, where they were neighbors and good friends of the artist Robert Motherwell. Condition: This work is not framed.
