Showalter with brothers in 1861; a Model 1864 cartridge box (tins missing) with a belt and "US" belt plate; a leather-bound book (cover detached) titled "Personal War Sketches/Presented To/W.S. Thompson Post No. 132/Department of Pennsylvania" with all of the service of each member of the post including Showalter; a tin box marked "Post 132" with paint loss and wear; a Gettysburg booklet; a GAR book titled "Centenary of/Abraham Lincoln/1809-1909"; a diary which includes a description of the Battle of Antietam; Showalter's discharge from the 124th Pennsylvania Regiment; Showalter's discharge from the 2nd Pennsylvania Cavalry; two typed descriptions of Showalter's service; a large group of G.A.R. medals; a copy of the 140th Pennsylvania Volunteers regimental history signed by the author; a copy of the 124th Pennsylvania Volunteers regimental history signed by the author; a copy of Pennsylvania at Antietam; his soldiers memorial from the 124th PA; and a copy of Second Brigade of the Pennsylvania Reserves at Antietam. Note: Joseph Morgan Showalter was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in 1845. In 1862 he enlisted as a private in the 124th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry and fought in the Battle of Antietam and Chancellorsville, after which his enlistment ended. When Lee marched into Pennsylvania in 1863, he enlisted in the 29th Emergency Militia and served as a corporal. The unit was held in reserve and discharged in August 1863. In 1864 he enlisted as a quarter master sergeant in the 2nd Pennsylvania Cavalry and served at Petersburg and Appomattox. He was discharged on June 12, 1865. After the war, he was involved with the Grand Army of the Republic. He died in 1942 at the age of 96-97.

Worth and other related documents, Provenance: descended through family, recently gifted outside the family; Private Collection; Note: John C. Worth originally enrolled on September 25, 1861, at Mount Pleasant, Iowa as a Private in the 4th Iowa Cavalry, under Union Army command. Notable in his tenure with Company D, Worth was present at Wilson's Raid, which saw the capture of Macon on April 20, 1865, in one of the Civil War's last battles. By August of the same year, he mustered out at the war's conclusion with an honorable discharge.ÿ

US 1860 LIGHT CAVALRY SABER REPLICAUS 1860 LIGHT CAVALRY SABER REPLICA W/ SCABBARD A nicely made replica of the Model 1860 Light Cavalry Saber used by Union forces during the Civil War. The sword features a 36" curved blade mounted to a bronze wrap-around hand-guard hilt and wire-wrapped leather grip. The sword has only one marking of a Knight's Helmet on the right hand side just above the hilt. The scabbard appears as if it could be a genuine Civil-War era piece, however, as it has the distinctive solder line along the blade edge. The sword is in overall good condition with some minor damage to the leather grip and light rust spots near the base, the scabbard has surface rust throughout.

Roby U.S. Model 1860 Light Cavalry saber, marked to ricasso 'C. Roby W. Chelmsford Mass,' on one side and 'US 1865 A.G.M;' to the other, with the typical curved blade and wooden grip with brass counterguard; a German saber with a crowned head mark, likely Weyersberg, with full leather wrapped guard and grip as well as a leather scabbard; and a European saber with an engraved blade and scabbard, having no apparent marks.
