In April 1937, the British government created the Air Raid Warden's Service, and during the following year approximately 200,000 volunteers were recruited. One of the duties of the ARP was to enforce blackouts, making sure lights were not visible from houses which could be used by enemy planes to help locate bombing targets. Before the Civil War, the company was commanded by Samuel Saylor, Sr., and then was reorganized in the 1870's by Samuel Saylor, Jr. This well documented muster roll manuscript details three different Montgomery Rifle Blues companies. Book entries range from 1850-1873. Leather bound with black gilt spine label. 6 1/2" x 3 7/8". Accompanied by several letters from the Historical Society of Montgomery County and a letter from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.

General Robert P. Kennedy, 3 other unnamed subjects and 1 group shot of soldiers in uniform. Lot also includes a hand tinted card of an African American female with a white child and a portrait card depicting the "Old Abe" or Live Eagle, the symbol on the flag of the 8th Wisconsin Regiment. Note: Major General James "Birdseye" Mc Pherson was killed at the Battle of Atlanta, facing the army of John Bell Hood, his old West Point classmate.
