KEITH HARING "AMERICAN FLAG" LITHOGRAPHDESCRIPTION:KEITH HARING "AMERICAN FLAG" LITHOGRAPHDESCRIPTION: Keith Haring (1958 - 1990) Untitled American Flag lithograph created as a flyer for the American Music Festival – New York City Ballet (1988.) Haring utilized his signature cartoon figures, placing them against Old Glory leaping, dancing, and tumbling down the flag, while hitting and nudging the stars and stripes as they make their way down the American flag. It's hilariously tongue-in-cheek, as Haring's artworks always were. The image was included in the Keith Haring Print Book (1993.) Signed and dated "Max '73" upper right. Housed in a contemporary wooden frame with a linen liner. Sight: 29 1/2" H x 39 1/2" W. Framed: 33" H x 43" W. Biography: "Peter Max was born in Berlin but raised in Shanghai, China. He and his family emigrated to the U.S. in 1953. He studied at the Art Students League and began his career as a graphic artist. He worked in a photo collage style in the 1960s which later developed what he called a Cosmic 60s style, with distinctive line work and bold color combinations. His visual impact on the 1960s has been compared to the influence of The Beatles on music. Max created several special commissions for the U.S. Government including the U.S. Border murals, postage stamps, and a Bicentennial special installation and art book. In 1982 he painted six Statues of Liberty on the White House Lawn and later helped actualize the statue's restoration. His one man retrospective show at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg in 1991 drew the largest turnout for any artist in Russian history. He has been designated official artist for the Grammys, the Woodstock Music Festival, and five Superbowls." (source: AskArt).
