NANO LOPEZ "FOXY" BRONZE & SIGNEDNANO LOPEZ "FOXY" BRONZE & SIGNED STUDYNano Lopez (Colombian, b. 1955). "Foxy" bronze (micro) AND hand-signed giclee on canvas study for this subject, edition number 72/1000, 2017. Nano Lopez' miniature bronze entitled "Foxy" presents an endearing little fox, curled up with its snout resting on its tail. This piece was created via the traditional lost wax process that originated in ancient Greece and Rome. Once the bronze was cast, Lopez added countless details via metal chasing, applied patinas to imbue the work with vibrant colors, and finally applied several coats of UV protective lacquer to both enhance and preserve the patina. In Lopez' own words, "The transformation from clay to bronze has always been magical to me." (artist's website) Joining the bronze is a framed and signed giclee study of Foxy. Size: 2" L x 3.25" W x 1.375" H (5.1 cm x 8.3 cm x 3.5 cm)
Nano Lopez calls his animal sculptures Nanimals and has created narratives for many of his Nanimals. Speaking of Foxy, "She just can't wait until morning because she is thinking; that tomorrow early in the morning with all certainty, most probably maybe, if I'm lucky and all things go well, I will be able to snatch those eggs down the sandy path by the river."
"Nanimals evoke the magic of seeing the world again for the first time with the eyes of a child. In his artistic process, Nano integrates organic textures and human made objects into his bronzes to create pieces of art that reflect the same attention to the magic, wonder, and creativity that children find in the world around them. Yet, Nanimals are anything but child's play. They describe, as does a fellow Colombian, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, a world beyond the borders of ordinary maps, where nature, an unfettered imagination, science, and folklore, monolithic and modern mechanical society exist seamlessly together." (source: artist's website)
"Foxy" bronze is number 72 from an edition of 1102: regular edition 1000 (plus 100 artist's proofs and 2 foundry copies). The giclee on canvas is hand signed by the artist and annotated by hand with a number that matches the annotation of the sculpture.
