- WINCHESTER 1895 CARBINE, 1ST MODEL,
WINCHESTER 1895 CARBINE, 1ST MODEL, .38-72 WCF An absolutely wonderful example of the Winchester 1895 rifle as it would've first appeared on the commercial market. This design of rifle is notable in a few respects, one for being Winchesters first offering designed for the then newly-introduced spitzer bullets and two for being one of John Browning's last designs for Winchester. This particular firearm is in a carbine configuration with an octagon barrel, flat-side receiver and smooth walnut handguard and buttstock with curved steel buttplate. The sights are a simple flip-up V-notches for 100 and 200 yard elevations with a driftable front blade. The blued finish is all but completely worn off with only a few spots still visible on the hammer and on sections of the lever mechanism. Mechanically there are no noticeable issues with the action still feeling remarkably smooth for its age. There is frosting visible in the rifling though the lanes and grooves are still defined. Some minor dings to the buttstock. S/N: 2517, Caliber: .38-72 WCF, BBL: 20", OAL: 39"

- EARLY PRODUCTION MARLIN 1881 .45 GOV
EARLY PRODUCTION MARLIN 1881 .45 GOV LEVER RIFLEEarly production Marlin 1881 in desirable .45 Government (.45-70) caliber. This rare example with serial number10466 was made in the 2nd full year of manufacture of 1883. The big Marlin Model 1881 was the first successful lever action rifle capable of handling the powerful .45-70 Government cartridge. It was also offered in .40-60 Marlin, .38-55 and .32-40 calibers. Model 1881s in these calibers are more common than the big .45-70 chambered rifles. Today a Marlin 1881 in .45-70 is a prize. It took Winchester a full five years after the introduction of the Marlin to produce their own rifle in this caliber. Marlin produced the Model 1881 for only 11 years and produced approximately 20,000 rifles combined in all calibers. This example shows fine lightly aged blue on the 24” octagon barrel. The receiver and magazine tube reveal a thinning aged blue to gray patina with blue in the more protected areas and on the spring loaded sliding loading gate. Further, the barrel shows excellent Marlin address and patent markings and is fitted with the original long buckhorn rear sight with elevator bar intact and a Rocky Mountain blade front sight. The solid stock and forearm on this example are particularly fine with tight wood to metal fit and showing only normal light handling. The correct original shotgun butt plate is smooth steel and unaltered. The action is tight with strong springs and positive safety half-cock on the hammer. The bore on this 140 year old Marlin is surprisingly excellent with sharp rifling all the way through. Normally the bore condition on these big black powder rifles is poor to fair, this one is exceptional in that regard. One of the first truly powerfull repeating lever action rifles to grace the American Frontier, the Marlin 1881 was popular with hunters, lawmen and outlaws alike. This example was produced right at the end of the great buffalo harvest and could quite possibly have been used for this purpose. This rifle recently came out of Montana. Serial Number: 10466. This firearm qualifies as an Antique, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
- EARLY WINCHESTER 1886 .45-70 LEVER ACTION
EARLY WINCHESTER 1886 .45-70 LEVER ACTION RIFLEEarly Winchester 1886 octagon rifle in the rare and desirable big .45-70 caliber. The low serial number 42842 indicates a manufacture date of 1890. A scarce and desirable western big game chambering in the Mode 1886, the .45-70 Government cartridge was one of the most powerful used by Winchester in this largest of John Browning’s designed lever action rifles. The big Model 1886 action was the strongest and most potent lever action rifle of the day. Few surviving examples in this powerful black powder caliber remain today and are seldom offered on the collector market. The standard and correct 26” octagon barrel displays a deep and rich blue finish and retains excellent Winchester markings that include: “MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO., NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A.” The upper tang is stamped with the earliest style marking and states simply, “MODEL 1886.” The bolt located on the top of the receiver also shows excellent deep blue finish. The receiver case colors have faded to an attractive mottled silvery/gray appearance with thin case color and still retains a good amount of surface dried grease from years of storage! The receiver also has excellent screw heads. The action is fully functional and tight. The butt stock has the correct early heavy crescent-style butt plate and shows only minor typical chipping around the upper tang. The forend is excellent. The bore is surprisingly fine with deep rifling all the way through with any roughness being light and surface. Further, this early 1886 is fitted with a buckhorn rear barrel sight with the sliding elevator bar intact. It is mated with the typical small blade Winchester front sight. The top of the octagon barrel ahead of the receiver is clearly and correctly stamped with the caliber designation “45-70” The 1886 in .45-70 chambering was very popular in the American West with riflemen who wanted the power that the heavy bullet .45-70 Government round provided. These black powder caliber rifles are rarely found with fine condition bores, especially in the largest chamberings. This is an exceptionally early and seriously powerful frontier rifle in particularly fine and visually appealing condition that is worthy of the finest Winchester or western firearms collection. Serial Number: 42842. This firearm qualifies as an Antique, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
- RARE WINCHESTER 1873 .38-40 LEVER ACTION
RARE WINCHESTER 1873 .38-40 LEVER ACTION RIFLEWinchester 1873 EXTREMELY RARE SPECIAL ORDER EXTRA LONG 30 INCH octagon barrel rifle in desirable, large caliber .38-40 with non-standard special shotgun butt stock, serial number 106625 made during the Indian Wars/Frontier Period of 1882. Winchester made over 720,000 Model 1873 rifles and carbines. According to the standard reference: The Winchester Handbook, by George Madis, of this huge number of 1873s only 1201 rifles had barrels longer than the standard length of 24”. Madis further indicates only 1286 Model 1873s had special butt plates from the standard crescent butt plates on rifles and carbine butt plates on saddle ring carbines. Considering that Winchester offered extra long lengths all the way to 36” in round barrels, octagon barrels and half-octagon barrels, there could only be a handful of 30” length octagon barrel rifles manufactured...and of these the survival rate would have to be even smaller. Add to this the shotgun butt, this makes this rifle one of a very few in existence today. Interestingly, it seems most special order long barrel rifles were in the smaller caliber .32-20, again, making this example even more rare in the large .38-40 chambering. This is the classic “Gun That Won the West!” An early and fine condition example, this 141 year old Winchester still retains fine deep aged blue patina on the barrel and magazine. The special order long 30” octagon barrel also retains excellent and clear Winchester markings. Walnut butt stock is in very fine condition with only normal surface handling marks and shows very desirable tight wood to metal fit, indicating that this rifle’s wood has never been sanded. Like the barrel, the receiver is an uncleaned natural aged blue/plum patina. This fine 1873 rifle also retains a very tight action and strong springs. The sliding dust cover on the receiver top is intact (these are usually missing) and the loading gate retains good deep original blue. The un-polished brass lifter on the receiver bottom is correctly engraved with “38 CAL” and shows an attractive mellow patina. The lever catch is also intact. Additionally, it is fitted with a desirable Lyman tang sight, original buckhorn rear barrel sight with elevator bar intact and a small Rocky Mountain blade front sight. This superior, large caliber Model 1873 is in better condition than normally encountered on the collector market today. Even the bore is in good condition and shows strong rifling. A fine example of a rifle produced in a factory before the use of electricity that is as good and solid today as it was on the day it was made. The Model 1873 was the standard for lever actions throughout the Frontier Period in the West which, in some areas, lasted well into the twentieth century. Most surviving specimens show heavy use and often abuse with broken or missing parts making this example far better than normally encountered. This rifle, in the very rare and desirable extra long barrel length of 30 inches in the large caliber .38-40 plus special shotgun butt would be a prize for any Winchester or Old West collection. A rare opportunity to acquire a nearly unique Model 1873 special order rifle. Serial Number: 106625. This firearm qualifies as an Antique, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
