IMPORTANT TENNESSEE PAINT DECORATEDIMPORTANT TENNESSEE PAINT DECORATED PIE SAFEGreene County, possibly Burgner School, circa 1840, in fine early probably original surface, cherry with poplar secondary, dovetailed splash panel, two dovetailed drawers over two punched tin doors opening to shelved interiors, tins with distinctive urn, heart, and candle decoration, matching tins on case sides, original turned feet, 59-1/2 x 54 x 20-1/4 in.

Note: Other examples of Greene County Tennessee pie safes with nearly identical punched tins are illustrated in Namuni Young, Art and Furniture of East Tennessee, pg. 37. One example is stamped on the lower back post "CB", for Christian Burgner of Horse Creek, Greene County.
Condition:
original tins with mid 20th century repaint, original varnished surface with surface wear and losses, crack and one corner loss to gallery, some denting to tins, old veneer loss to one front corner post, one drawer pull replaced, stains and finish wear to top, backsplash with two old nail holes
