  AMISH / MENNONITE RAG DOLLMade using scraps of material that were on hand the day of making. The dress was probably the child’s dress which she had outgrown. The shawl, remnants of the mother’s or grandmother’s shawl. The face did not originally have features due to lack of vanity in the Amish community. The child would often draw these features later with little reprimand from mother. Of museum quality, this rag doll came from the Amish/Mennonite communities of Eastern Ontario, late 19th Century. Measuring, approximately 26” long. The Carol Telfer Collection.
