Similar piece pictured in Paul V. Gardner, The Glass of Frederick Carder, Plate XV--colored referred to as topaz and Celeste blue.
“Around the 1918-1920 era, Frederick Carder decided to place in production glass items which were similar to the techniques used by Venetian glass artisans for centuries.”
“Venetian traits included folded rims and bases’ hollow stems’ a wafer applied between the base and the stem; ball stems; the application of prunts, handle rings and edges trimmed in a different color from the body of the example; plus the liberal use of silver and gold mica flecks on scarce objects.
“Some typical colors used both singly and in pairs were Amber; Topaz; Amethyst; Marina, Flemish and Celeste Blue; Wisteria; Pomona Green; Verre de Soie; Aqua Marine (an iridized greenish tint); and Cyprian (a pale green iridescence with applied Celeste Blue at the rims).” The Collector’s Encyclopedia of American Art Glass by John A. Shuman III.
