A Scottish basket hilt broad sword double edge blade basket hilt pierced with hearts and discs iron pommel second half of the 18th century (grip and parts of basket restored) Estimate ?250-400 Blade length 30.5 inches. Minor dents and wear to the basket hilt with old repairs to the back section some of which looks like replacement parts please see additional photographs. Plain wooden grip looks like a later replacement. Some form of fine scroll work engraving noted on the blade although this is worn and concealed by oxidisation and pitting slight bend to the tip of the blade with a number of small dinks and notches along the length of it. SCOTTISH HIGHLANDER OFFICER PARADE SWORD W/ SCABBARD**First Time At Auction**
Northwestern Europe, Scotland, ca. early 20th century CE. A Scottish Highlander officer's sword with the distinctive basket hilt and velvet straps and tassels. The steel double-edged blade is engraved with decorative thistles and scrolling vines, and 6-pointed star proof mark and disc (slug) on the other side. The basket hilt is lined with velvet and the grip is covered in ray skin. The brass parade scabbard has a pair of rings with attached leather and velvet straps with silver trim ribbons. Size in scabbard: 40" L x 6" W (101.6 cm x 15.2 cm); blade: 31.75" L x 1" W (80.6 cm x 2.5 cm)

Josephine's father was a founder of Kansas City's Emery, Bird, Thayer Department Store.
