- 20TH C PAINTING - JESUS & ALL SEEING
20TH C PAINTING - JESUS & ALL SEEING EYE - OUTSIDER ART...**Originally Listed At $400**
American, 20th century. Inscribed "Erminie and E. Mosh 5-1:48" at lower right. A special Outsider Art painting on canvas with a multifaceted religious theme. At the lower right, the artist -whose identity is suggested by "Erminie" and "E. Mosh" - has inscribed a reference to the Gospel According to Matthew Chapter 5:1-48. Christ is depicted at the center wearing a crown with a Cross over His chest. The Eye of Providence (also known as All Seeing Eye of God) is painted above, watching over humanity. Some also interpret the all-seeing eye as a representation of the Trinity, while others interpret it as a good luck charm. This eye is flanked by winged beings - an angel, a winged eye, and doves that perhaps symbolize the Holy Spirit - various symbols of God's omniscience. An image of the head of Christ with a 5-pointed star on his forehead above burning flames of purgatory as well as an erupting volcano above a verdant landscape further contribute to the composition. Size of sight view: 17.5" L x 23.5" W (44.4 cm x 59.7 cm) Size of frame: 22.2" L x 28.2" W (56.4 cm x 71.6 cm)
This otherworldly composition is delineated in a tranquil color palette including shades of sky blue, rose, citrine, peach, lemon yellow, teal, aqua, sienna brown, lavender, and cornflower blue - mounted behind glass in an attractive custom frame.
