Currier and Ives was founded by Nathaniel Currier (American, 1813-1888) in 1835 as "the Grand Central Depot for Cheap and Popular Prints," but changed its name with the addition of James Merritt Ives (American, 1824-1895) in 1857. The company created over 7000 popular lithographs depicting American life until 1907.

Signature and Document of Noted 19thSignature and Document of Noted 19th C Thinkers, framed 15" x 9 1/2" framed, signed note from (sir) Richard Owen, noted English biologist d. 1892, he coined the word 'dinosaur', cut signatures include John G. Whittier, Quaker abolitionist and poet, d. 1892, he wrote the book Snowbound, known primarily for his correspondences and his stand of abolition, Augusta Evans Wilson, American author, wrote St. Elmo, Beulah, Tale of the Alamo, etc., d. 1909, signature dated 1885, both cuts not certified, evidence of adhesive at back of each, does not affect signatures. Also to include document of notification regarding Manor house located in Suffolk England July 23rd 1755, identification of owners or recipient is difficult to recognize on the document, one prominent name is of 'Samuel Girling (sic)' does have notation front later time frame of the documents supposed value indication of taping on prior tears, significant foxing on the back of the document with indenture at side that appears original/intentional.

Ernest Lawson (Canadian-American 1873Ernest Lawson (Canadian-American 1873 - 1939) "Snowbound" oil on canvas signed lower right in original Newcomb Macklin frame under glass canvas measures 16"T x 20-1/4"W with frame 22-3/4"T x 26-3/4"W. On original keyed stretcher with partial paper label attached stamped logo and pencil inscription. From a private family collection spanning three generations.
A member of The Eight a group of artists which included the group's leaders Robert Henri Everett Shinn John Sloan Arthur B. Davies Maurice Prendergast George Luks and William J. Glackens. Though Lawson mostly painted landscapes he also did some realistic urban scenes which were shown at the 1908 exihibition of The Eight. His painting style is heavily influenced by Impressionism especially the style of John Henry Twachtman Alfred Sisley and J. Alden Weir.Though considered an Impressionist Lawson's work stylistically falls between Impressionism and realism. He became associated with Henri's circle of insurgents and was included in the landmark 1908 independent exhibition of The Eight organized to protest the jury system of the National Academy of Design annuals though he also became involved with the Academy and showed there throughout his life.
