NVSN; .69 caliber, walnut stock, bright finish, marked "1842" on breech tang, eagle over "US" and "SPRINGFIELD 1842" on lockplate, traces of "VP" on breech end of barrel; together with Model 1840 bayonet marked "US" and "XVII."

Provenance: Property deaccessioned from the Centennial Museum at the University of Texas at El Paso to benefit the Museum Collections Fund. (Accession #51.05.01A inked on triggerguard tang). Brass plaque with State of Texas Inventory #724-16609 riveted to buttplate.

Condition: Bore dirty but not heavily pitted. All metal dark except triggerguard, barrel and barrel bands, which have been overcleaned. Lock has been reconverted back to flintlock using crude parts; lock does not fit properly into lock mortise.
