Jules Dupre, French painter, was one of the chief members of the Barbizon school of landscape painters. ADMIRAL FITZROY BAROMETEREngland circa 1900, the grained oak case showing a richly carved pediment with turned finials, over a glazed panel fronting a paper backing in faux Old German font, affixed with a storm glass on the left, a mercury tube in the centre and a scaled thermometer to the right. Measuring 49" high x 10" wide. Contents & functionality unknown at time of cataloguing. (Admiral Fitzroy 1805-1865, was the Captain of The HMS Beagle that took Charles Darwin on board to Patagonia. Soon after his retirement, Capt. Fitzroy turned his knowledge of seafaring towards developing a barometer for inhabitants living in coastal areas, and which bears his name. This lot must be picked up.
