Multiple inscriptions by Asa Spalding (Man Mid-Wife of the Law) in 1785, also by John T. Wait in 1734. Top of title page missing, worn binding, but intact, contents very good. Written at the back "Coke himself is the best index." Edward Coke (1552-1634, pronounced 'Cook'), was the greatest jurist of the Elizabethan and Jacobean era. Solicitor General of England and Wales. Asa Spalding was probably the lawyer for the Wappingers in the Hudson Valley land riots of 1766, a Yale graduate from Norwich, Conn. John T. Wait (1811-1899) was a US Representative from Connecticut.
