Each with wear. The tantalus with wear and losses to the leather, one glass element missing. The oval box with repairs and losses, lacking key. The burl box with wear and losses to the stain, the hinge is slightly popped and the cover does not close completely. EDWARDIAN MIRRORED WALNUT GAME TANTALUS W CIGAR STORAGEAn Edwardian tantalus, walnut and brass case, with its three original hand-cut glass decanters, original mirror glass, labeled cigar and cigarette compartments, three velvet-lined compartments with cordial glasses, and a bottom drawer with parlor games. The lock is in working order, with a key (later replacement). The game drawer opens with a spring mechanism triggered from a button above. English, circa 1902.
Engraved inscriptions to the crest brass indicates that the tantalus was offered as a 1902 prize: "Won by the Earl of Ashburnham's Sussex Heifer "Coronation" / Tonbridge Fat Stock Show 1902 1st Prize Winner Given by WJ Mackey / Re-Presented to Edward B. Ratcliff".
Measures 13 1/2" x 14" x 11 1/4".

Condition
Very good condition. One decanter has a small chip to its base, and two stoppers have minor nicks -- otherwise the decanters and cordial glasses are in great condition. No notable scuffs or scratches to the case.

DEPRESSION GLASS LIQUOR DECANTERS TANTALUSDESCRIPTION: Paden City Spring Orchard Etched Depression Glass Liquor Decanters Tantalus. The glass pattern name is “Spring Orchard”; a lovely design comprised of flowers and birds. Includes two liquor decanters with engravings "Scotch" and "Rye". Tantalus is a stand in which spirit decanters may be locked up. The purpose of the lock is to stop unauthorized person from opening the tantalus decanter set and drinking the content of decanters.
CIRCA: 20th Century.
ORIGIN: USA.
DIMENSIONS: H: 11" W: 14" D: 3 3/4". Decanters are 9” tall x 5” wide x 2 3/4” deep.
CONDITION: Vintage condition. Tantalus with some rusting under bottles. Locked. Key not included. See lot description for details on item condition. An Antique Tantalus Set Fashioned from a stack of four antique leather bound books, fixed together, hollowed out and fit with two flasks and five small glasses, French, most probably made about 1860. The tantalus measures approx. 5-1/4"H x 8"W x 5-1/4"D overall. The lid has been hinged and can be lifted slightly with two braided metal "bookmarks" at either end.
