(Morris the son of an iron worker traveled to London to learn the family trade when he was encouraged by fellow artist William Holman Hunt to become an artist. Soon after Morris took drawing classes at night at the British Museum and later studied at the Royal Academy. In 1851 Morris won a gold medal for his rendering of ''The Good Samaritan'' which allowed him the opportunity to travel to France and Italy where he resided until 1864. Due to his skill and prolificacy Morris was eventually elected as an associate of the Royal Academy in 1877. Morris is best known for his sweeping maritime scenes religious renderings and contemporary portraits.)
