Southeast Asia, Northeastern Thailand, Ban Chiang culture, ca. 300 BCE to 200 CE. A superb hand-built earthenware vessel resting on a flared foot with a mesmerizing, patterned surface painted in a cream slip and red-orange scrolling motifs with abstract human figures around the body. This balanced profile is exceptionally beautiful, and this sizable piece is all the more impressive because it was molded by hand without the use of a potter's wheel! The painted surface and pedestal base indicates this piece was made during the Late Period. Size: 7.5" Diameter x 11.75" H (19 cm x 29.8 cm)
