NATIVE AMERICAN AND INTERPRETER CABINET CARDThis pair is found in an unusual pose with a Frontiersman interpreter wearing a kerchief over a hide tunic with fringe and trousers is making what may be a Native American Indian sign language gesture and looking at a Native American man wearing a prominent feather headdress and numerous trade bead necklaces. His shoulders are draped in what may be a wool blanket, he wears beaded armbands over his sleeves. The Interpreter or Scout is focused on the Native American who is in turn looking at thephotographer with a slight look of amusement. Produced by J. F. Barta & Co, Waterville and New Prague, Minnesota. Approx. 4-3/8" x 6-1/2" Some discoloration and marks throughout. NATIVE AMERICAN INTERPRETER CABINET CARDC. 1900 photograph depicting a man in Native American Indian face paint with a blonde moustache and hair wearing a Buffalo horn headdress with a blanket over a button down shirt and trousers. On his back is a quiver with arrows, he is holding a clubor ax with stone head and a peace pipe crossed in front of his torso. At his hip is an empty knife sheath, on the other side is a pouch. No markings on the antique card. Approx. 4" x 8-1/4". Overall discoloration, corners are soft. Both upper corners have bends in the card and image, lower right corner of image is broken off. BURGESS NATIVE AMERICAN INTERPRETER19th C. cabinet card showing Henry Edwin Burgess dressed in Native American Indian style hide and beadwork clothing wearing a headband with feathers, a large bear claw necklace, and holding a peace pipe. H. E. Burgess was a well known Interpreter reputedly appointed in 1872 by President Ulysses S. Grant as an Indian Agent to the Pawnee Nation in Nebraska. He and his brother Charles Albert Burgess joined the Buffalo Bill Cody Wild West Show with Eddie continuing as a rodeo performer, rancher, and actor for the rest of his life. Card imprinted "F. A. Webster 1069 Broadway, corner 12th Street, Oakland, Cal. Approx. 4-1/4" x 6-1/2".
