- A copy in unusually good condition for
A copy in unusually good condition for its age of The English Governess At The Siamese Court (Boston, 1870) by Anna Harriette Leonowens (1831-1915). This memoir was the basis for Margaret Landon's 20th century novel Anna and the King of Siam, which in turn was the basis for the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical The King And I. This copy, bound in the original publisher's green cloth with gold lettering on spine and cover, seems to be a rare edition published by Fields, Osgood & Co. of Boston. Most American copies appear to have been published in Philadelphia. Slight foxing to frontispiece, tissue and title page.
