A Seth Thomas 8 Day Wooden Works Shelf Clock ca. 1840's Two-door front mahogany veneered case with diamond shape key escutcheons with stenciled half columns and slab painted wood face with Arabic numerals flowers and gilt 8-day wood movement paper maker's label backing inside bone diamond shape key escutcheons. Hands are off but present.
Seth Thomas (1785-1859) apprenticed to a carpenter and then when 22 years of age he joined the firm Terry and Hoadley in clock making. He then started his clock factory in Plymouth Hollow and remained there until his death in 1859. He was regarded as one of the most honest and successful clock makers of his time. He is one of the most recognized makers even in modern time.
