CIVIL WAR ITEMS IDENTIFIED TO JOSEPH M. SHOWALTER United States,A .44 caliber Colt Model 1860 Army revolver, serial number 4892 all matching no number on the wedge, walnut grips with cross hatching; a Model 1860 Light Cavalry saber; an image of Joseph M. Showalter with brothers in 1861; a Model 1864 cartridge box (tins missing) with a belt and "US" belt plate; a leather-bound book (cover detached) titled "Personal War Sketches/Presented To/W.S. Thompson Post No. 132/Department of Pennsylvania" with all of the service of each member of the post including Showalter; a tin box marked "Post 132" with paint loss and wear; a Gettysburg booklet; a GAR book titled "Centenary of/Abraham Lincoln/1809-1909"; a diary which includes a description of the Battle of Antietam; Showalter's discharge from the 124th Pennsylvania Regiment; Showalter's discharge from the 2nd Pennsylvania Cavalry; two typed descriptions of Showalter's service; a large group of G.A.R. medals; a copy of the 140th Pennsylvania Volunteers regimental history signed by the author; a copy of the 124th Pennsylvania Volunteers regimental history signed by the author; a copy of Pennsylvania at Antietam; his soldiers memorial from the 124th PA; and a copy of Second Brigade of the Pennsylvania Reserves at Antietam. Note: Joseph Morgan Showalter was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in 1845. In 1862 he enlisted as a private in the 124th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry and fought in the Battle of Antietam and Chancellorsville, after which his enlistment ended. When Lee marched into Pennsylvania in 1863, he enlisted in the 29th Emergency Militia and served as a corporal. The unit was held in reserve and discharged in August 1863. In 1864 he enlisted as a quarter master sergeant in the 2nd Pennsylvania Cavalry and served at Petersburg and Appomattox. He was discharged on June 12, 1865. After the war, he was involved with the Grand Army of the Republic. He died in 1942 at the age of 96-97.

RMS Queen Mary sailed from 1936 to 1967 for the Cunard-White Star Line, with the interruption of the war and was built by John Brown & Company in Clydebank, Scotland.
