FOUR LETTERS PERTAINING TO A CIVIL WAR MILITARY DETECTIVE IN WASHINGTON, D.C. Being two official letters and two personal letters associated with Corporal William Wimley, Company "C," 10th New Jersey Volunteers, all small 8vo, in part, as follows: the first, anonymously signed "Capt Comdg Military Detectives and Patrols Washington D. C., February 8, 1864, reading, "...William Wimley...has been connected with the Provost Guard and Military Detectives of this city, for over 29 months. He had proved himself every way capable & worthy of any position or business entrusted to him..."; the second, is an Autograph Letter Signed by Wimley to his wife Ann Eliza, May 31, 1864, saying he will come home when he can get a furlough, signing off with "To my little wife and Big Baby; the third an Autograph Letter Signed, June 29, 1865, outlining family finances; the fourth , an Autograph Letter Signed, "J. R. McPherson from New Jersey Senator John R. McPherson, to Mrs. Wimley, one page on U. S. Senate letterhead, April 10, 1891, responding to a pension claim.
