Image 18-3/4" high by 17-1/4"wide on sheet 22-3/4" high by 19-1/2" wide. 1" tear to top margin. 2nd map: Map of the Battle of Luka, Mississippi, showing the positions of the United States and Confederate Troops on the 19th of September, 1862. Pub. 1877. Ref. Stephenson #273. Image 23-3/4"H x 28-1/4" W on a sheet 26" x 30". Scattered small margin tears and chips. 3rd map: Map of Port Hudson and Vicinity, pub. 1877. Ref. Stephenson #238. Repaired 13" vertical tear running from center top, chipping at right margin, couple of spots of foxing, light creasing. 4th map: Map Showing the Military Defenses of Cincinnati, Covington, and Newport [1861-1862]. Published 1877. Ref. Stephenson #319. 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" margin loss extending into image on center left side. Image 25"H x 36-1/2" W on a sheet 27-3/4" x 39-1/4". 5th map: Map of the Battlefield near Belmont, Missouri. United States Forces Commanded by Brig. General U.S. Grant, Nov. 7th, 1861. Published 1876. Ref. Stephenson #297. Image 16" x 20" on a sheet 19-3/4" x 22-3/4". Very good condition. Note: in the 1860s and 1870s, the War Department issued many lithographed maps made fom hand drawn maps its engineers had drawn during the war. They were loose sheets of various sizes, not part of atlases or books, although some of them were similar to the maps issued in official reports. Many of them served as the basis for the maps in the official Civil War Atlas published in the 1890s.

All white oak, rib-type split baskets with handles secured by nails at the rim. 1st item: Oval basket signed by Jessie Jones on handle. 6 1/4" H x 10 3/4" W. 2nd item: Small engagement basket initialed by Ivan Jones. 6 3/4" H x 8" W. 3rd item: Miniature engagement basket signed on the underside of the handle by Bertha Jones. 5 1/4" H x 7" W. Biography: In 1929, Jessie presented Bertha a small handmade basket as a marriage proposal. His work is featured in the book BASKETS AND BASKET MAKERS IN SOUTHERN APPALACHIA, written by John Rice Irwin (1982). (Higher-resolution photos are available at www.caseantiques.com)

HAUGHT - SILVE...1st item: Scarce West Virginia stoneware pottery preserving jar with cobalt stenciled decoration reading "H. P. Haught, Silver Hill West VA". 8 1/4". Last half 19th century. 2nd item: Stoneware pottery preserving or canning jar, likely Middle Tennessee, with incised counting "tally" or math marks to one side. 9" H. Late 19th/Early 20th century.
Condition:
1st item: Overall very good condition. Firing marks noted to rim and body to one side, shallow chip to base. 2nd item: Overall good condition. Long vertical firing mark to body. Outer and inner rims with fleabites or shallow chipping.

Condition:
1st iterm: Chip to spout, hairline emanating from the base to mid-wall on backside near handle. 2nd item: Vertical hairline emanating from rim down through the body, otherwise overall good condition. Interior and exterior with remnants of later added paint.

Engraved with "Marian Siedentopf W.H.P./Artaban Shrine #5./W.S.J. 50-51/West Van Arsdol/W.O.S." on front decorated with overlay silver cross and clear stone insert. Measures apprx. 2-1/2"L x 1-5-8"W x 1"D and overall with handle apprx. 7"L.
Attr: Eleanor M. Harrison (AmericanAttr: Eleanor M. Harrison (American School). An unsigned portrait sketch of a black woman wearing a yellow bandana, approx. 6-5/8" x 5-5/8", framed in a simple gilt frame overall approx. 8-1/8" x 7-1/8". Found in the backing of the framing of this piece is a carte de visite of an unidentified young woman made in Pittsburgh and a partial hand written note fragment that reads "Painted by Eleanor M. Harrison. See 'ancestor' and roses." Another note fragment reads "Eleanor M. Hararison, Girlhood friend of Mother's in Clarksbury West Va. (Miss Nell to us). This was painted in a hotel garden in Florida one winter. See also the 'ancestor' and colored woman in yellow bandanna". It is unknown to what the 'ancestor' refers.
