Primary decoration depicting a heart over flowering potted plant, tombstone with weeping willow tree, and 12-pointed star over house. Bordered with triangular geometrical design. Back side decorated with flowering vine and rectangular cartouche, 10.25”H x 1.5”W. Busks are long, flat slices out of whalebone ribs that whaling crews decorated with carvings and then gave to their wives or sweethearts once they were back on land after a voyage. Busks were slipped into vertical pocket in ladies’ corsets to stiffen the garment.
